10 Essential oils you need everyday and how to use them

10 Essential oils you need every day (from Katia Yoga)

Essential oils are my latest passion.  I love all of the different smells that wash over me as soon as I open the little bottles.  I also love the positive effects on my moods.  I even enjoy organizing the little bottles into neat rows by color or effect.I've gotten a couple of great books to support my learning- one about how essential oils can support physical ailments and one about how they can support emotions.  Essential oils can help combat negative emotions and strengthen positive emotions.  Both books came with some cool tools.  There are images of the books at the end of the post :)I like doTERRA essential oils because of their purity and potency.  I also like how they support local farmers around the world, wherever the plants for the oils grow best.  And they bottle the oils right near the source.  They even have a charity that supports people in need.  They sent calming oils and hygiene packs over to the children at my school after our school and the students' homes were taken by lava.  I wrote a whole post about why they're so great.  You can check it out right over here. Now I must warn you that the FDA does not recognize any of these effects and I am in no way authorized to give you advice.  I'm just sharing my findings and suggestions.  Also, please know that this post contains affiliate links, meaning if you click through and buy something I will receive a small commission.Without further ado, here are your top 10 essential oils!

10 Essential oils you need every day (from Katia Yoga)

  1. Wake up with On GuardAdd a drop of On Guard and a drop of Slim and Sassy to a glass of water with breakfast.  On Guard is an immunity booster.  It helps fend off illnesses.  I work with 15 adorable little germ factories in a classroom every day and so far the only sick day I've needed this year was a mental health day (self-care anyone?).  If you feel something coming on, a spritz of the On Guard spray directly on your throat can help (it's also good for disinfecting cuts).  On Guard can help keep surfaces clean and can be diffused to keep airborne germs from spreading.  Slim and Sassy is a blend that helps keep your metabolism in check all day- avoid those extra snacks and aid your digestive system to work properly.  It also comes in a gum!  If you're not into Slim and Sassy try Ginger with your On Guard instead-- great for digestion and empowerment.

  2. Lemon water to go!Your body will love Lemon water.  The lemon essential oil is alkaline rather than acidic like lemon juice.  Lemon helps with keeping things clean and inside and out.  It can also lift your mood, increasing energy and joy.  And let's be honest, it tastes great.  My body craves it.  I also sometimes choose Wild Orange.  It's good for creativity, joy, and anxiety.  Peppermint is my newest go-to for my water.  It's incredibly refreshing and helps with alertness and cooling the body.  Emotionally, it's good for optimism and working through emotional pain.

  3. Lavender for your skin and peace of mindLavender is good for all kinds of skin irritations.  Apply lavender topically to rashes, allergies, bites, stings, blisters, burns, wrinkles, etc.  And its calming tendencies make it good for other more mental irritants too ;)  Lavender is also helpful for communication, for example I know someone who rolls it on her throat before presentations to help ease her speaking.  It's also helpful for getting in touch with yourself-- awareness and truthfulness within yourself.   It's also good for peace of mind, de-stressing, and improving sleep.  It's your perfect wind-down oil.

  4. Rollers for emotional support through the dayIt's hard to even know where to begin with this one!  Whatever your mood, "there's an oil for that."  Need a boost of good cheer, motivation, inspiration, calm, forgiveness, serenity, balance, purity, hope, passion, elevation?  We got you.  Grab a roller.

  5. Terrashield for your outdoor adventuresThis is an amazing blend.  I've tried several "natural bug sprays" that were essentially natural parfums.  Not TerraShield.  Insects will seriously leave you alone.*

  6. Digestzen for digestive reliefDigestzen soothes tummies quickly and effectively.  As someone with celiac disease and several other intolerances, it's easy to upset my delicate stomach.  Digestzen applied topically surprised me with how well it worked.  Bloated feelings dissipated and gurgling ceased.  I would swear I could feel things moving and changing within a minute of rolling Digestzen on my belly.  Eating anything questionable? Get Digestzen.

  7. Diffuse to inspireYou can diffuse almost any kind of essential oil to create any kind of positive emotional atmosphere you can imagine.  Choose your scent or your symptoms and breathe in healing.  While you may only notice the scent of the oils when you're close to a diffuser, actually the oils can travel up to 40 feet away in the air.  You can diffuse a single oil or make up your own blend using different drops of different oils.  My favorite oil to diffuse is Lemongrass.  Lemongrass is good for cleansing and finding simplicity.  It also helps purify the air.  Right now, Balance is in my diffuser though.  We could all use a little balance!  This blend is good for tranquility, harmony, and grounding.

  8. Peppermint to refresh and stay alertPeppermint is one of my favorites (but aren't they all?!).  Peppermint brings optimism, relief, and emotional strength.  Physically, it helps with alertness, which is why I like to put it in my afternoon water bottle.  Its antibacterial properties also make it a great choice for tea if you have a cold, flu, or a sore throat.  Just add a drop of peppermint to hot water (but not too hot, because it negates the oils' effects).  Peppermint also clears your airways right up- smell it directly under your nose or with the mudra show below with breathe.  Also, it can help with inflamed sinuses.  Dab a little on the swollen area.  Your eyes will water and your skin might tingle, but I bet you'll feel it's worth it when you feel what happens.  It can also be good for the stomach and muscles. It has a cooling effect on the skin.  It's even good for memory.

  9. Breathe to... breathe easierBreathe will open your airways with a cool, clean scent.  Laurel, peppermint, eucalyptus, melalucca (tea tree), lemon, and more essential oils are a soothing, medicinal blend.  To use this oil, I roll it onto my hands then rub them together to warm and spread the oil.  Then I make open my thumbs to let the aromas of the oils out directly under my nose (you can do this with any oil, by the way).  You can use this same hand posture to make a sort of inhaler-- just put your mouth to the space you created with the warm oils and breathe deeply through your hands.  You can also roll or rub Breathe onto your chest.  It's also soothing for bedtime, which brings me to...

  10. Lavender or peace before bedLavender (a calming, peaceful oil) and Peace are a couple of my favorite nighttime essential oils, but Balance, ClaryCalm, Serenity, or PastTense would also be good choices!  I like to roll them on the bottom of my feet before I slip into bed.  The bottoms of your feet have the biggest pores so they make a great spot for oils.  It's easy for your body to soak it in from there and spread essential oils and relaxation alllll over.
